Qatar Superstock 600 Championship winners’ awards were presented yesterday in a prize giving ceremony held at Ritz Carlton organized by Losail Circuit Sports Club and Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation.
The trophies were presented by Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation President, Mr. Abdulrahman Al Mannai and by Losail Circuit Sports Club Vice President and General Manager Mr. Khalid Al Remaihi.
For Mr. Abdulrahman Al Mannai, QMMF President It was a very good season and competitive in both championships ‘We are very happy to see new Qatari faces in our championship and this was one of our goals. Also, we tried to reduce the cost on our competitors and we are happy with the results. Of course, there are some areas to improve and we are going to work for next season and make these championships bigger and grow more.’ QMMF President said.
‘With the concept of the QSTK championship, same standard bike for all the competitors, it brings more competition and we’ll try to unify the same for the cars although it is more difficult in terms of cost and we need to take it gradually, but it is very important the continuity and we are not going to make changes’ added Mr. Abdulrahman.
Mr. Khalid Al Remaihi, LCSC Vice President and General Manager was also very pleased with the result of both championships ‘I am really happy with the season. For next season, we will see if we can accommodate seven rounds in each championship, the challenges of our season are short, depending on the weather and we will see if we can squeeze more the rounds. This season has been very busy at the circuit, with a lot of weekends with multiple events at the same, with an increase of family and community events. We hope to encourage more people to come to the circuit and bring their families’ commented Mr. Al Remaihi.
In the Qatar Superstock 600, the winner of the championship was Saeed Al Sulaiti and was very happy for winning this championship after thrilling races with Mishal Al Naimi ‘First of all, congratulations to everyone, competitors, riders and marshals for this successful championship. Also, I want to thank Ooredoo as my sponsor, QMMF and LCSC for their support in this championship and my team that stand next to me to achieve this title. I am really happy for everyone performance here as everybody improved from the official test till the end of championship’ commented Al Sulaiti.
‘About my win, I am really happy, it is my first personal championship, of course it was not easy, I had a bit fight with the others, and Mishal was one of the stronger one but we were able to solid, stronger and managed to end the season in first position. Really happy about all the rest, specially Abdullah, the youngest Qatari who show promising skills and performance for the future and hope he just keep focusing and improving. For next season, I hope to see more riders joining us and for next year, of course, we‘ll come even stronger and try to dominate from the beginning and use bike number 1 and my defend the title.’ ended Al Sulaiti.
The runner up of the championship, was Mishal Al Naimi, who finished only by 5 points behind Al Sulaiti. ‘First of all I want to thank to Ooredoo for being my sponsor and to QMMF and LCSC for organizing this amazing championship. We started at the beginning with good results, winning the first four races. We had good competitors in this championship and Saeed was very strong from the middle of the season. I lose my leading position from the 4th round when I crashed with Saeed and I from this point I lose the championship but this is racing and these things happen but I am happy with my result and performance. Saeed deserve the championship he worked very hard, I finished second only 5 points gap and the championship was very good from start until the end’ said Al Naimi.
‘I am thinking for next season, already working for next year, I have many things to do and I hope I can also race with Superbike championship and thanks to QMMF for gave me the Moto2 wild card in the middle of the year. I will try to be more ready for next year and be more fit to win the QSTK600 title.’ added Al Naimi.
Nasser Al Malki was awarded in third position in the championship and he was happy with his result after being two years without competing ‘This year was very hard for me after I stopped two years riding. I enjoyed again the races, it was very nice for me because I stopped long time and it was very difficult for me to go back to compete. I am happy to finish third but this is not enough for me as I always want to be in the first and for next year I have a good plan to be ready and we’ll see what we can do for next season.’ commented Al Malki.
The Rookie of the Year trophy was for the 17 years old rider Abdullah Al Qubaisi who finished the championship in a great 4th place ‘I want to congratulate all the winners and also my team for their great job. Also, I want to thank QMMF and LCSC for their support and happy to be the Rookie of the year and finish the championship 4th overall. I hope to improve more next year to finish in better position’ said Al Qubaisi
There was also an award for Ali Al Shammari, as the best improved riders of the season ‘This season was very strong for me because I also took part in Bahrain and Dubai championships. I had an accident in the first round in Dubai and broke my shoulder and I couldn’t be 100% fit in some rounds of QSTK. In overall, I am happy with my result and hope next season to be more ready and focused more in Qatar championship and give more.’ Al Shammari said.
